HIGH PRESSURE
The ability of a ceramic-to-metal seal to withstand either high external
or internal pressure is very dependent upon its design and construction.
Where ceramic and metal components are under compression forces, it is
acceptable to allow operation up to 350Kg/cm
2. In a situation
where the reverse applies the maximum pressure allowable, for guidance
only, is 35Kg/cm
2. In any application where high pressures
are involved please contact our technical staff for advice.
SIMULTANEOUS HIGH TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE
At temperatures above 50°C the ability of the ceramic-to-metal seal to
withstand high pressure will be reduced. This particularly applies in
oxidising atmospheres where, at elevated temperatures, braze erosion can
occur. In all applications employing simultaneous high pressure and high
temperature it is advisable to consult our technical staff for advice.
OPERATING TEMPERATURE
The excellent thermal shock property of alumina permits satisfactory operation
down to liquid nitrogen temperatures (-196°C).
At high temperature satisfactory continuous operation is dependent upon
the atmosphere which the ceramic-to-metal seal is subjected and also the
braze alloy employed in its construction. Recommended maximum temperatures
are shown on next page.
